The watch shape takes its cues from the original Seiko ‘Alpinist,’ first launched in 1959 for Japanese ‘Yama-otoko’ mountain men, to be reliable in treacherous terrain.
The green dial is inspired by the beautiful verdant slopes of the mountainous forestry areas of Japan. The Sunray dial reveals a different expression as the angle of vision changes. Highly visible Lumibrite markers are applied to the dial and the hands. An oversized screw-down crown sits beside the 3 o’clock position and is protected by a crown guard built into the case, which increases the functionality of this watch. A further crown at 4 o’clock operates an inner rotating bezel that can be used for compass bearings.
Benefiting from over 140 years’ of Seiko’s watchmaking expertise, this watch is powered effortlessly by the caliber 6R35 and is a higher grade inhouse manufacture automatic movement. Mechanically beating at a frequency of 21,600vph, it will provide superior automatic timekeeping accuracy of -15/+25 seconds per day with a 70 hour power reserve. Convenient ‘hacking’ seconds function for re-setting accurate seconds time, this movement is also hand windable and with quick date correction. Peace of mind from magnetic resistance of 4,800 A/m (60 gauss) and with Seiko’s ‘Diashock’ shock protection system. Equipped with an ultra-scratch resistant Sapphire crystal with magnified glass, it also has an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface to help showcase more clearly the highly detailed dial.
The case is highly polished, sealed and tested for a water resistance of 200m and has a glass ‘exhibition’ style caseback that proudly reveals the movement within and is secured to a luxury leather strap that will age well and develop a beautiful patina over time. Befitting the quality of the strap, the buckle is a stainless steel Seiko branded luxury folding deployant buckle and is secured with a push button release.
